Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Buying Guide

DÉFIBRILLATEUR CARDIAQUE

DÉFIBRILLATEUR CARDIAQUE

The 5 points to consider when buying your next automated external defibrillator

Whether you’re a school principal, security officer, general manager of a fast-food franchise, or work in the hospitality industry, buying an automated external defibrillator (AED) is unfortunately all too often forgot. However, it is an important tool to add to your arsenal of prevention tools.

In the United States, approximately 535,000 cases occur each year.[1] About 13 in 10,000 people (326,000 or 61%) experience a cardiac arrest outside of a hospital, while 209,000 (39%) occur inside a hospital.[1]

Cardiac defibrillators: useful tools for the entire population

Automated External Defibrillators (AED) are lightweight, portable devices designed to help save people with Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in public and can be used by tweens, borderline children, teens, and adults. Even passers-by with little training can use them in an emergency, following the audible and visual instructions. However, not all cardiac defibrillators are created equal – automated external defibrillators come in different shapes, sizes, and features. So how can you make sure you’re buying the right device for your workplace?

5 standards to follow when buying an automated external defibrillator (AED)

An effective AED is a vital link in the chain of survival, allowing you to provide life-saving intervention before emergency services even arrive. To do this, the manufacturer Stryker offers you various options to help you choose the right defibrillator for your employees and customers.

When purchasing an automated external defibrillator (AED) for your organization, consider these features:

1. Ease of use

Choose a cardiac defibrillator that uses simple graphics, audible prompts, and automated features to help users stay focused. Clear visual and voice instructions guide rescuers through the cardiac resuscitation process.

2. Preparation

The battery is not charged? The AED not where it’s supposed to be? These are common issues with devices in public spaces. Get an AED that connects to Wi-Fi® and can be configured to alert you to things that could affect device availability or other issues, all automatically.

3. Connectivity and Technology

Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity can give emergency responders a view of every cardiac arrest event. So even before they arrive, ER professionals are better prepared and understand details of delivered shocks, see the patient’s electrocardiogram (ECG) and more.

The Stryker LIFEPAK CR2 defibrillator is the first and only AED that enables chest compressions during ECG rhythm analysis, reducing pauses between CPR and defibrillation with cprINSIGHT™ analysis technology. Once CPR begins, the device analyzes and automatically detects if a shock is needed. This greatly reduces pauses in chest compressions, even eliminating pauses if the rhythm is determined to be non-shockable.

4. Affordability

It’s not just the initial cost of the device that you need to consider. Think about long-term maintenance and expiration dates for accessories. HeartSine AEDs come with the innovative Pad-Pak, built-in battery, and single-use cartridge of pads with an expiration date, simplifying AED maintenance. With a shelf life of four years from date of manufacture, the Pad-Pak offers significant cost savings over other defibrillators that require separate battery and electrode replacements.

5. Size and Durability

Most public spaces need a device with a small footprint that fits into a limited space in an office, airplane, or vehicle. Look for an IP56 (ingress protection code, number 56) which is the industry’s highest level of dust and water protection in AEDs.

Let’s help save lives by using a Cardiac Defibrillator

When one of your clients or employees collapses from a sudden cardiac arrest, time is running out. Reducing the response time of even a minute or two from collapse to heart defibrillator shock can mean the difference between death and survival.

Help keep your workplace safe by choosing from a wide range of defibrillators. With the right solution for every public place, we can help improve ACS survival rates in your community.
